Not much else is known about it beyond its name: Car says it will be called the GLC, a friendly nomenclature we remember best as a Mazda hatchback (allegedly for "Good Little Car"). To be based on the MRA platform - the rear-drive version of the company's three new modular platforms, it will also support the coming 2013 S-Class and could eventually get an AMG version to help it compete with segment offerings like the forthcoming Porsche Macan. According to a report in Car, the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class (shown above) has received its invitation to the party and will spend the next three years getting ready: it's said that two-door variant of the crisply-angled CUV is coming in 2016, along with a redesign befitting its sleeker intentions. Radio chatter around the emerging small, premium crossover coupe genre has thus far been dominated by the Land Rover Evoque and the Mini Paceman. Little wonder that, while BMW has already followed up with a smaller version in the form of the X4, other automakers are starting to catch up. Sure it made little sense, sacrificing all that "utility" for a little more "sport," but it's been a solid success for BMW - especially considering the nominal expense it cost to develop the X6 on top of the X5 on which it's based. We'll have all the details on the official replacement for the CL-Class when it makes its full debut tomorrow. We can't see any details on the back of the car, although it does appear that the long hood has a correspondingly short rear deck.

The hood and front fascia are longer and lower, befitting of a two-door, while the character lines in the profile are more pronounced. Like the concept, the leggy production model appears related, albeit distantly, to the S-Class Sedan.
